Classic Sloppy Joes

Classic Sloppy Joes 🥪

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • ½ green bell pepper, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • ¾ cup ketchup
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp yellow mustard
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • ½ cup beef broth
  • ½ tsp smoked paprika
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • 4–6 hamburger buns
  • 1 tbsp butter, for toasting buns

Method:

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef, onion, and bell pepper. Cook for 6–8 minutes, breaking up the beef, until browned and the vegetables are tender. Drain any excess grease.
  2. Add the garlic and cook for 30 seconds. Stir in the ketchup, tomato paste, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, beef broth, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper.
  3. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer. Reduce the heat and cook for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens and coats the beef.
  4. Meanwhile, lightly butter the hamburger buns and toast them in a skillet until golden.
  5. Spoon the hot Sloppy Joe mixture generously onto the toasted buns. Serve immediately with pickles, fries, or your favorite side.
