Soft, buttery, golden on the outside, and surprisingly easy—this is a great no-fuss homemade bread!
📝 Ingredients
- 3 cups self-rising flour
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1¼ cups buttermilk
- 4 tablespoons butter, melted
- Extra melted butter, for greasing and brushing the top
👩🍳 Instructions
- Prepare the crock pot: Line a 6-quart slow cooker with parchment paper, leaving some overhang. Lightly brush the parchment with melted butter.
- Make the dough: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, and salt. Add the buttermilk and 4 tablespoons melted butter. Stir until a soft, slightly sticky dough forms.
- Shape: Transfer the dough to the prepared crock pot and gently shape it into a round loaf.
- Cook: Cover and cook on HIGH for about 2–2½ hours, or until the bread is cooked through and the center reaches about 190–200°F (88–93°C).
- For a golden crust: Slow cookers don’t brown the top. Carefully remove the loaf, brush generously with melted butter, and place it under a broiler/grill for 2–4 minutes until golden. Watch it closely!
- Cool & serve: Let it cool for 10–15 minutes, then slice and serve warm with plenty of butter. 🧈
Tip: Don’t overmix the dough—stir just until the ingredients come together for a softer loaf.
