They are easy to make, incredibly satisfying, and perfect for lunch, dinner, meal prep, or a comforting snack. Served warm from the oven, each bite delivers a delicious combination of buttery pastry and hearty filling.

Ingredients

For the Filling

  • 500 g minced beef
  • 180 g potatoes, peeled and diced
  • 120 g carrots, diced
  • 100 g onion, finely chopped
  • 15 g garlic, minced
  • 30 g butter
  • 20 g plain flour
  • 150 ml beef stock
  • 10 g Worcestershire sauce
  • 5 g salt
  • 3 g black pepper

For the Pastry

  • 320 g puff pastry
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Method

Step 1: Prepare the Filling

Heat the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic and cook for 2–3 minutes until softened and fragrant.

Add the minced beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon as it cooks. Stir in the diced potatoes and carrots and cook for another 2 minutes.

Step 2: Make the Gravy

Sprinkle the flour over the beef mixture and stir well to coat the ingredients evenly. Gradually pour in the beef stock while stirring continuously. Add the Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper.

Reduce the heat and simmer for 8–10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables begin to soften and the mixture thickens into a rich, flavorful filling. Remove from the heat and allow it to cool slightly.

Step 3: Assemble the Pasties

Preheat the oven to 200°C (390°F) and line a baking tray with parchment paper.

Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface and cut into equal-sized circles. Place a generous spoonful of the beef filling onto one half of each pastry circle, leaving a small border around the edge.

Fold the pastry over the filling to create a half-moon shape. Press the edges together firmly and seal with a fork. Brush the tops with beaten egg to create a beautiful golden finish.

Step 4: Bake

Transfer the pasties to the prepared baking tray and bake for 20–25 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed, crisp, and deep golden brown.

Step 5: Serve

Allow the pasties to cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy them warm on their own or with gravy, peas, baked beans, or a fresh side salad.
